Juju

Juju is a wonderful song written by friend and collaborator Nelson Devereaux for his partner. I fell in love while learning it for the Pure Grooves sessions in 2023 and recorded a demo. After listening to it for so long, I worked on it adding bass, strings and additional piano. I took out the drums and asked Paul to add guitar. The result is an ever evolving arrangement over a through composed track. I love how it came out and hope you will too. The title has a double meaning referring to the West African practice of influencing spiritual power via charms, amulets and rituals. The original can be heard as “Juuj” by Cool Nel D.
